Banks close early in South Africa, generally around 3:30 and earlier on Saturdays and closed on Sundays. ATM's will distribute currency in RAND and do not expect to find one in the outback, so be prepared.  Visa and MasterCard and widely accepted.


CULTURE & ETIQUETTE TIPS:

  • Basic meet and greet is done with a good hand shake and maintaining eye contact.  Same gender cheek kissing is common among family and close friends. For woman not all will shake hands, so you are better to wait for their action first.​

  • Men, only kiss the cheek of a woman if you are very well acquainted.
  • The 21st and 40th birthday are highly celebrated,
  • Chocolates or flowers even a bottle wine for the host that invited you to their house is appreciated. (Gifts are opened immediately)
  • Punctuality is important.
  • No hands in pocket
  • In tribal and rural areas:  It is best to inform yourself with locals before going to a specific village.

  4. Cango Caves:  The principal cave is one of the country's finest, best known, and most popular tourist caves, and attracts many visitors from overseas.  - Google Maps
  5. ​Cradle of Humankind:  The Cradle of Humankind was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1999, 50 kilometers northwest of Johannesburg.  This site currently occupies 47,000 hectares and it contains a complex of limestone caves. - Google Maps
  6. Two Oceans Aquarium:  The aquarium comprises seven exhibition galleries with large viewing windows.  The enchantment of this particular aquarium is due to its location, where the Indian and Atlantic ocean meet.  - Google Maps
  7. Big Hole:   A world-class tourist destination, providing unique insights into diamonds, diamond mining and the process of recovering rough diamonds right through to the polished gem found in today’s jewelry. - Google Maps
  8. Voortrekker Monument:  This massive granite structure is prominently located on a hilltop, and was raised to commemorate the Voortrekkers who left the Cape Colony between 1835 and 1854. - Google Maps
