Be sure not to miss a single story by Dalene Heck & Pete Heck a Canadian couple that sold everything in 2009 to start a new life house sitting.  They have great stories to share and we all can learn from their experience.

Yes, it is real and people take it very serious.  If you only knew that there are 100's to 1000's of home owners a year looking for people to care for their homes while they are away.  Mind you, it is not a simple greet at their door and they leave, no.. The home owners have needs and requirements.  A high percentage of the time is to care for their loved pets and possibly other chores that would be discussed and agreed upon prior to taking the offer. There are a few reputable websites with monthly fees (ranging from $20 to $60 depending on the membership),

House Sitting websites allow home owners to post their needs and build a portfolio, and for home sitters the same process applies. Think of it as a job offer, make a good impression and convince the owners that you are the right sitter for them and their pets. So yes, traveling can be cheap, if you use smarter travel techniques, especially when house sitting you never know where you will be next.  Please take a moment and read all of the travel blogs from 1stoptravel411 house sitting section I put together for you.
